A tailgate party can be a lot of fun, and doesn't have to be held while waiting for a game to begin. In fact, throw a tailgate party at your home or at the park! Party supplies are a must! Plan on lots of food and beverages, a few party games and some activities. Be sure to have a lot of paper towels, napkins and garbage bags on hand. Disinfectant wipes are nice too! Whether you use a small portable grill or a grill at your house or the park, stock up on hamburgers, hotdogs, veggies and skewers. Create a banner to let family and friends know where the party is. Ask guests to bring lawn chairs, but have some extras on hand for those who don't have one.
Plan tailgate party games that people of all ages can play, such as tag football, catch, or a frisbee throw. For added fun, divide people into teams of four with ages mixed. Send the teams on a scavenger hunt! Provide each time with a list of items to look for and a box to put the items in. When teams return, provide printable games such as a maze, cryptogram or a word search puzzle to keep people busy until everyone returns. Award silly prizes to the winning team.
After people have had time to grab a bite to each, it's time for more tailgate group activities. Obstacle courses, relay races, balloon blowing contests or a game of "I Spy" are all great options. Afterwards, head back to the tailgate for more food!
