For your child's next birthday, how about throwing a sports party? The party games can be a mix of sports, such as volleyball, kickball, frisbee tossing and softball. For additional activities, plan some silly games such as tossing a football through a hula hoop, a bubble gum blowing contest, or a ring toss.
In preparation for the big sports day, decide on party supplies. Mylar balloons in the shape of basketballs, baseballs and soccer balls will bring other elements of sports into the party. Supplement with latex balloons. Stock up on food and lots of beverages. Purchase plates, napkins and cups with a sports theme on them. Instead of a birthday cake, decorate the tops of cupcakes to look like different sports ball.
Indoor sports activities should be planned as well. Have kids form a circle and pass a marshmallow from one person to the next using spoons. Let the kids create their own games. Split the kids into two to four groups and give each team an object, such as an empty can, a squishy ball, a paper towel cardboard tube, etc. Give the kids fifteen minutes to come up with a game and jot down the rules. Then play each game.
Anytime there's a lull in the party, sports mazes, cryptograms, fill in the blanks, matching, word scrambles and other printable games are a good filler. Have the kids work alone or in pairs. Hand out miniature sports balls for prizes. End the party with the sports cupcakes and goody bags.
