Great Thanksgiving Activities

Fall festivities can be more fun than any other time of the year with a little activity planning and organized Thanksgiving party games for kids. The beauty of fall harvest is the perfect backdrop for the festivities that mark the end of summer in some climates and a prelude to winter in others. Thanksgiving is less stressful than the more culturally important holidays and is the perfect time for everyone to just enjoy. In warmer areas with the luxury of a rural environment fall crops provide much of the entertainment. Some may be lucky enough to have a barn to use for apple bobbing and other traditional activities. But a small apartment in the city can still employ the imagination in role playing and costuming. Charades and pin the tale on the donkey can be tailored to Pilgrim charades and pin the stem on the pumpkin in any sized home.

If you do happen to have space outside to play here’s a couple of fun games you can set up for kids to check out. The pumpkin, an ever present sign of the Thanksgiving season are used predominantly in both games. The pumpkin toss isn’t exactly what it sounds like. Basically you would carve out a pumpkin as you do for any other use. At the party kids can take turns trying to toss a treat from the goody bag into the pumpkin. When they get their treats in they get to eat them and another child can take his or her turn. Another good game is the pumpkin roll; this is what it sounds like. The kids are each assigned a pumpkin and they must roll them in a race from the start to finish lines. The first ones to get their pumpkins to the finish line are the winners. Give the winners a Thanksgiving party favor as a prize.

If the prospect of cleaning up vegetable matter is unappealing then perhaps traditional beanbags can be tossed. The pumpkin roll could simply be a beach ball roll. Maybe dropping the clothes pin in the bottle would make a quicker clean up than apple bobbing. When that’s the choice then simply decorate with harvest items and your other Thanksgiving party supplies.
